Some of Julie’s early work in channel from 1991 and 1986 where Micciah discusses:
Fate and free will: We think of fate in connection with “outer” events, to which we assign meaning. Certain “facts” of our lives are agreed upon before incarnation, others are shaped as we interact with our paths. Perceiving multidimensionally, we learn to turn “events” into teachings. We have most control over creation of the “ground of being” of our consciousness. The more we live at group level the more “outer” reality will shift.
Choosing to be born into what seems to be an inappropriate family: Beings choose for many different reasons. “From the point of view of the deep self, all experience is fascinating. Sometimes an entity goes into a difficult situation to see how closely the personality self can align itself to that greater wisdom... Some of the challenge in physical life is to risk surrendering into ’you are safe.’ ”

Micciah: We greet you all, dear friends.

Julie: My Name is Julie Winter, and this program is called Micciah Channel.
And what you are going to see is me, going into an altered state of consciousness, a non‑ordinary state of awareness. And what I believe happens when I am in that state is that I enter an expanded geography of the self, and that there is an overlap between what I know (my intelligence, my awareness, my experience) and something that is larger than my ordinary awareness. It may indeed be that it is all part of my awareness and that would be fine. What’s produced is a personality that is a product of this overlapping and the personality is called Micciah. My voice is going to change and it is my own voice. The variations in speech have to do with my being in an altered state.
The program is created from my classes. My students bring questions in. We encourage you to do the same. And use your discernment in evaluating the information that comes through.
The program that you are about to see is made up of a number of different class sessions.

Joy:  Hi, Micciah.  I was curious: what is the relationship between fate and free will?

Micciah:  This is a rather large question.
   [Laughter.]
Well, now, ah — we will come back to the notion of fate as being attached to your concept of events and therefore, in great part, attached to your ideas about what “happens”:  “I am fated to ... go to Peru”; “I am fated to meet this person”; “I am fated to, ah — have a life of ill health.”  [Whisper.]  Yes.  [Aloud.]  This is a description of, ah — a variety of types of events.  Yes?  Is that more or less so?
It is not a description of consciousness, of the quality of awareness that indwells each entity as a potential.  So — no matter what the event (whether it is an event of physical illness, an event of physical movement, an event of two entities meeting, an event of a relationship), the consciousness with which you receive the event — how you understand it, integrate it, interpret it, use it, as anything from a jewel and a gift to a horrible burden that causes bitterness and despair — that is always movable, malleable.
You understand?  The responsiveness of your own consciousness is open in every non-moment moment, every flicker of time (hard to talk without using time).  That ... is up to you.
So that is not, shall we say, fated.  And you are free to work with that in many ways: in the overt available way of your own believing, your meditation, your spiritual practice, your exploration, your love; in the dreamworld; in your conversations with other realities, other species.
So when you think of fate, you think of, ah — a named event of some kind.  And then, to that event you assign meaning, depending on your personality, your culture: “Ah, that is a good event!”  “No — that is a bad event.”  There are cultures in which death is not considered to be necessarily undesirable; your culture is not one of them.  There are cultures where great wealth would be a burden, others where it is craved.
So — the notion of fate implies the notion of an outer event; and it is an outer event that you have assigned — to which you have assigned particular meaning, yes?  And your question is: but are the events fixed?  We have said, your consciousness is always movable, always possible to open to the vastness of love that is there ... [inhales] — and drink it in.  And you know, this has occurred in the most dire circumstances — in concentration camps, in prisons, under conditions of horrible illness and suffering, people have been able to drink in Spirit and be in that expanded awareness.
So then we say to you, well — what has happened to the person who becomes ill and seems not to be able to mobilize resources, becomes bitter and despairing?  The illness has happened; most importantly, the consciousness that is with it has shaped itself, energetically.  Another person, same kind of illness — they receive it as a gift, observe it as a teaching; have their feelings about it, and yet are living in a much expanded way of perceiving.  Then what has happened?  You see — it starts to fall apart.
We are, however, begging the question in one way.
There are some agreements that you make (again, now, we are in the linear frame; there is no way to have a discussion without it) before you come into your physical body — agreements that you will, indeed, meet certain people; that you will give your life to a particular ... path; that you will be born, in fact (in fact, in relative fact) — you will be born in a specific vehicle.  You help fashion your own body, in consciousness, as you are developing in utero.  Down to the genetic details.  You will be born in a certain family: that’s a fact.  It’s not an accident.  You will be born in — in the soup of a particular historical time, yes?  In the relative world, that’s all fixed.
So, if you could imagine a moving field of energy, with an entity coming in who has shaped the energy — and it is very fluid in some places, and quite, um — fixed, or dense, or formed, in others (this is at an energetic level), then it is likely that [sigh] the more fully shaped probabilities have been agreed upon as ... schools, tools, for the awakening of the personality and the development of the soul, and that you will encounter those structures as events: what “happens.”  Still, your consciousness is not fixed.
We are making a model to try to illustrate something.
Then there are other areas that are not shaped, and you will shape them as you come into the incarnation and interact; those will start to shape themselves.  Even with the question of karma, not only is your consciousness fluid.  Your awareness and perception of an “event,” quote — how to describe this? — often the level of physical impact of the already shaped event is movable.  So, you have, ah — shaped a set of probabilities quite strongly, upon designing your incarnation; but as you approach it, in “time” — in the relative world — as you approach that, if you have become one of openhearted and multidimensional perceiving, you will have perceived what you are needing to confront, in terms of blockages, of fears, your own greed, or your fear of abandonment, or whatever the seeds are; and as you have addressed this, you may lessen the physical impact of the shaped probability.  Do you understand?

   Students:  Yes.

Micciah:  You were talking about this, Rick, with Julie yesterday.  Similar kind of thing.
Now, the personality will fasten upon this idea immediately, and decide that if it works hard it can simply rid the life of all unpleasant events.  That’s not [with a laugh] what we are saying.  However, we are saying that as you consciously invite the teaching of your life to communicate with you, you less and less think you are living only in a relative world with an outside and an inside and a cause and effect — yes?  You start to become aware of all the events of your being, outer and inner, as teachings — something to be contemplated, meditated on, dreamt about....
[Pause.  Very quietly.]  Ha-ha.  [Aloud.]  Now, is it more common to think of fate as negative?  Perhaps not.  Even so — suppose you are fated to have great wealth: you have made an agreement, upon coming into an incarnation, to deal with the issue of enormous material abundance — how to work with that.  The fact of great wealth, alone, is something you attach meaning to; yet you know there are those who have great wealth who are miserable.  It does not in and of itself produce anything, or necessarily mean anything, except for the consciousness attached to it.  Do you understand?

   Joy:  Yes.

Micciah:  So, you are always participating.  Co-creating your reality.  And you are very much creating your own matrix, the ground of being of your own consciousness: that is the domain over which you have the most control.
You say, “But what — what about a child, with a huge belly, swollen from starvation?  How can this child conceive of this?”  And at the level of the personality, the child cannot.  In dreamtime, yes.  In being surrounded by guardians and protectors — spiritual protectors — yes, even though the body is suffering.  And then the child is a witness ... hm ... to the need for transformation in the physical world, to be responsible for alleviating suffering in the ways that you can, you could; and also ... a piece of reality that you have to go beyond the relative to [sigh] to be able to chew it up and digest it, so it is not only poison — poisonous; that is, it is poisonous to have starving children when you don’t need to.  [Deep sigh.]
[Pause.]  The more you are able to live at a group level (you must remember: group agreements) — at a group level — in a prayerful consciousness, the more the shape of the outer reality will shift, because there is no inner and no outer.  And even such events as earthquakes and tidal waves are a creation [sigh] of consciousness.

   ----------

Polly:  Micciah, why would someone choose to be born into a family constellation when their planets apparently don’t...  seems to be so wrong, it doesn’t fit that universe.

Micciah:  When you are an alien planet, you mean, among the other planets.  In the constellation of your family.

Polly:  Right. Why...  What would be the point of a being choosing to do that?

Micciah:  Yes.  No.  Well, why would one, why would one enter a family situation where there was much sorrow and hardship?  You must understand that from the point of view of the great self, or the deep self, all experience is fascinating.  And sometimes [pause] an entity goes into a difficult situation to see how closely the personality self can align itself to that greater wisdom,  and, as we said earlier, peer through the opacity into the divine. That doesn’t mean you necessarily want to hang out there with your personality, you know?  If a constellation of a family is damaging, is abusive, you can nourish yourself and protect yourself by leaving, once you get old enough to leave.
It’s a complex question because the question is framed as if people choose for the same reason.  But entities choose for a vast multiplicity of reasons.  Sometimes it is to speak with a particular voice in that family.  Sometimes it is to reenact a relationship that has had thousands of faces, to see if you can penetrate through the illusion into divinity, through that face.  It’s not hard, you see.  When there is harmony...  When there is a real palpable love, the divine is very easy to see.  But it hides out in the physical world, it hides out in what seem to be horrible situations.  We are not condoning the horror.  We are saying that this is a place, if you will, where you play with duality and with apparent evil, with pain.
Um, we will...  Let us use another analogy.  You know in dream time, in dreaming time, you can go through a horrific experience.  Dream time is very real.  It isn’t dense physical time, but it is perfectly real.  You can go through a horrific experience, and then the personality self wakes up and says, “Oh, all right, that was just a dream.  I’m really safe.”
Well, in the greater dream, you are really safe, just the way you are really safe in dream time.  Only the illusion in the physical, dense physical, seemingly dense physical world is that you are not safe.  So, some of the challenge in physical life is to risk surrendering into “you are safe.”  Just as you know that the dream that may have been terrifying is all right when you waken, so you know that the physical world, from another perspective, from the greater perspective, is all right, even when the dream seems very horrible and is in physical terms very real.
Now, that does not mean...  The chal...  One of the challenges, or the possibilities, the opportunities in the physical world is to choose to let your personality self be suffused with the love that is absolutely present and safe and that holds everything and indwells everything.  So...
I think we will stop there.
